Fun Find: Towel Turban

Yay! A fun find for you:) I have been growing my hair out for the past 2 years…since my sisters wedding. Needless to say, it is REALLY long now…well the longest I have ever had my hair…ever! Here are pics so that you can compare:)

Anyway…there are many things that I have never thought of before that have become issues because of my long hair. One of those things is it takes FOREVER to dry and style after a shower. My sister who also has long hair suggested I get a Towel Turban (not exactly like mine, but close). I had seen them many of times while shopping at Ross and TJ Maxx, but thought they looked a little funny! Well, I broke down and decided to splurge and spend the $7 at TJ Maxx the other day. Can I just say…I LOVE IT!! After I towel dry my hair, I put it in the Towel Turban – which you can see you put it on and twist it and attach it with a little rope circle that goes around a button on the back. It is awesome because unlike a bath towel, it stays in place and allows your hair to dry for a little while so that it doesn’t take as long to blow dry:)) So, I don’t know if this will be helpful for you, but I LOVE mine!!

Great Sites: Kids in Mind

Have you ever been sitting in a movie and all of a sudden a super inappropriate scene starts to play?  Or take your kiddos to something that you thought was a kid friendly movie and then surprised by the content and the language?  Well, I hate to say it, but I have been in both situations.  Since then, my hubby and I have made an effort to check Kids In Mind each time before we go to the movies to make sure we aren’t surprised again.

It is SUPER detailed…I thought a little too much when I first looked it over, but now I just look at the ratings (which are divided in three areas:  Sex&Nudity, Violence&Gore, Profanity) and if one stands out I read some more into it.  I don’t know if this is something that you ever had a need for, but I just thought I would share with you because it has been a great resource for us.

Summer Learning: Leap Frog Summer Camp

I don’t know about you, but I have been looking for some new things to keep my boys busy this summer!  We haven’t really gotten into a routine yet, so it seems like Jude in particular is always asking me to watch a show or a movie.  In order to keep us from TOO much TV (although there are days that we do have too much:)) I have been looking for other activities for us to do.  Since Lincoln is still little and better if he has two naps, some days we are trying to stay home so that he doesn’t miss the morning nap too many days in a row.  So…that means things that we can do at the hacienda!

I ran across this great little summer camp on the Leap Frog site.  This site will send you an email each week that includes a link for the week.  Each week breaks down each day and gives you an activity to do and then gives other extra things to do each day.  Here is the description that they share on their site:

LeapFrog Summer Camp is designed to keep the learning going all summer long through exciting weekly themes and free, do-anywhere learning activities that explore geography, writing, science, art and more. Sign up to receive a Summer Camp email every other week.

Here is the link for Week 1

Some highlights that I see this week is:

  • Quarter Collectors – let’s you mark when you have collected quarters from each state
  • Things that Go – a chart that you can take with you while you are out to mark which “thing that goes” they see throughout the week
  • Neighborhood Crossword – a crossword with items found in your neighborhood
  • United States Coloring Map – a map that can be colored by the legend to discover the landscapes
  • Eat your way around the world – this sounds like the most fun to me!  I think we will start with Mexico – since Mexican food is our favorite!
  • Famous Places Race – a map that lets you race across the map introducing them to famous places around the United States.

I hope that you will enjoy it with your kiddos!

Summer Fun: Grapevine Friday Fireworks

Who doesn’t love Fireworks?  We LOVE fireworks at the Simons house!  Grapevine is having Fireworks Shows all Summer on Friday Fireworks

A 12-minute fireworks display taking place over Lake Grapevine every Friday night at 9:30 p.m. Best viewing locations are your favorite lake parks or on top of the parking garage at the Gaylord Texan Resort for the Garage Rock Out Party.  They also have a detailed page that give you the best places to see the fireworks and the music that you can download so that you can play it while the fireworks are going:)  That is SO exciting to me, because music make everything better!

We are gonna try and go at least once this summer!  Let me know if you go!
