Oh how I love Valentine’s Day!

I know so many people think that Valentine’s Day is a hallmark holiday, but I LOVE it!  I don’t know if it is because growing up I couldn’t wait to have a hubby and fall in love or I just love all the hearts and stuff:)  Either way, it was fun when it was just me and the hubby, but now that we get to add the kiddos it is even more fun!  I love to celebrate ANYTHING really, you see my thoughts are we should make a BIG deal about the fun things because who doesn’t love to celebrate:))  With everything on Pinterest, I felt a little overwhelmed trying to find a cute Valentine for Jude to take to school.  Usually I would try and make something from scratch, but I ran across some great free printables from Living Locurto and decided to use them because they were so cute!

I had a hard time finding the regular pop rocks, but went to the Dollar Store and ran across these great CARS poppin’ candy.  It was perfect because Jude LOVES Cars and then they could each have 3 different flavors!  I was so excited that I found them:)

I always loved it when my Mom would have things all decorated to celebrate a special day, so I guess that is where it came from.  I went to Michaels and ran across some great items that they had marked down to $1 to decorate for the Valentine’s Day table!  And found the balloons and treat bag contents from Dollar Store too!  The boys really loved it!

Lastly, I found these super cute matching PJ’s for the boys at Walmart!  Not only were they Valentine’s Day, but they were Cars as well…a WIN, WIN!!  I know that I am super bias, but they look crazy adorable in them!

I made some gifts for my sweet hubby, but I didn’t take pics…still getting used to trying to remember to take pics.  I know it almost seems like Valentine’s Day was forever ago, but I hope you had a great time celebrating like us!!

Superbowl 2012

This year was a little different for the Superbowl.  We got invited to hang out with our close friends The McCarthy’s.  It was crazy because Hayley (the mom) had given birth 3 days before the Superbowl and still wanted us to come over!  They are crazy like that…super easy going!  We decided to bring some dinner and hang out and sorta watch the game.  It was funny because I took this picture and realized how different our life has become now that we have 2 little ones and hang out with friends that have little ones too.  Personally I think it is so sweet…I not only love that our hubby’s are taking care of the little ones, but I love that we get to “do life” with friends like this.  I love that we have known each other since our babies were little and that our youngest kiddos love to play together.  It is in these times I am so thankful for the friends that we have around us.

Enough with the mushy stuff – because we are on weight watchers – I looked up some “skinny” snacks for the Superbowl watching party for us to eat.  I was worried that they wouldn’t be tasty, but they were approved by the boys…so that is really good!  The first was Skinny Baked Jalapeño Poppers.  These were my favorite out of two…and they were super tasty!  I ended up having to cook mine longer so that they would get a little crunchy…but they are SO good and only 1+ WW point per popper!

The second one was the Skinny Baked Mozzarella Sticks.  These were pretty good, but I think that we probably should have cooked them a little longer because they weren’t stringy like Skinny Taste shows on her site.  I think I took the “freeze” part a little too seriously:)  Either way, they were a great alternative and I will probably make them again.  They helped us enjoy our party and stay on our plan!  Yay!  I call that a success!

Fun Find: Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Apptivity Case

So, I thought I might share some of my fun finds.  One of the fun toys that I have found for Lincoln is the Laugh & Learn Apptivity Case.  I know some mommies don’t really like to use technology at a young age, but at our house it is pretty much all around.  This case is so cool because it allows them to look at your Iphone or Ipod touch and not drool all over it or break it by dropping it.  It also comes with some suggestions for some great app’s suggestions for counting and animal sounds.  It is also great because of the round wheel shape that provides handles on the side for them to easily hold and watch videos or movies that you have uploaded.  It will also still allow us to use it to play his “sleepy” music.

Overall a great product and a great invention that I thought I would share with you!

One week in and some pretty good recipe choices…

We made it through our first week of Weight Watchers!  I lost 3 lbs:) My hubby lost a few lbs, but he didn’t write down his starting weight…so we will count officially from this week.  We tried some new recipes this week and some were better than the others, but here are a few of the keepers.

Lunch Ideas:

Cilantro Chicken Salad from Skinny Taste – I give this a 5 star!!  I LOVE chicken salad, but this one is really good!  The cilantro and the spices add a new flavor that makes it really great.  I have always used canned chicken previously, but I boiled frozen chicken with some spices and then used that cooked chicken and it made it taste even better.  I didn’t take a picture, but go check out Skinny Taste…her site is great and REALLY pretty.

Cobb Salad from Skinny Taste.  I made this but didn’t have a few of the items.  I made it with romaine lettuce topped with turkey lunch meat, turkey bacon, avocado, tomatoes, blue cheese, feta cheese and mangos.  I used some blue cheese dressing because we already had it on had and it was very tasty!  It does take a little while to get everything together, but it is good.

For the rest of the days, I ate leftovers, turkey sandwich or chicken salad.

Dinner:

Quick Skillet Steak with Onions and Mushrooms Sandwich from Skinny Taste.  My hubby has a huge love of Philly Cheesesteak’s, so when I found this I was excited to try it out.  It was pretty good, but needs a LOT more seasoning.  It also needs a different kind of bread then what I bought, which was sourdough.  I will try it again, but wasn’t my favorite.

Cauliflower Poppers from Weight Watchers.  I was trying to find something that was similar to french fries or something.  These had great flavoring and after cooking for a little longer they tasted pretty good.  They aren’t by any means french fries, but they were pretty good.

Turkey Enchilada Pie from Weight Watchers. Sounds a little funny, but it is super tasty!  It is it pretty spicy, but hubby said it was definitely worth trying again.

Turkey-Stuffed Cabbage Leaves from Weight Watchers.  I have never tried cabbage before and have really wanted too.  Plus, it was on sale this week:)  They take a little more work to put together, but they were really good!

eating healthy…

So now that I am over 6 months post baby, I need to get to work on getting rid of some of this extra weight.  It is not my favorite thing to do, but I really need to get to work!  I have tried many different diets and plans, but have decided to go with Weight Watchers this time…hopefully the final time:)  I really like it because it allows you to eat whatever you want, but you just have to stay within the points.  That seems easy enough, right?  Well, not that easy, but reasonable.  I joined the online version because it is cheaper and it is too hard to go to meetings with a baby in tow.  I joined before Christmas, but spent a little while working on a plan for the different meal options.  I find that is the hardest thing about an “eating plan”…other than sticking to it, preparation!  So, I was trying to create a way for me to be successful by learning more about what we can have and find some good recipes to try.  I am hoping that it is going to be a little easier since my hubby is going to be doing it with me:)

I have found some great recipes from a great site www.skinnytaste.com and not only does she have a picture of EVERY recipe that I have seen (which is like one of my favorite things), but she includes the weight watcher points for each one!  I have also found some great stuff on the new weight watchers site.  I will be sharing some of the good recipes as we go along:)

There are also some great applications on the iphone and probably other phones too.  Here are a few of them:

  • Weight Watchers Mobile – which is the tracking app that comes with the online Weight Watchers membership.  It allows you to track your points and look up the point values for all the food items.
  • Weight Watchers Scanner – MY FAVORITE! This is the best, it allows you to scan the bar code and it gives you the points value.  I have found that it has a really big database and even has some of the generic items.  Very helpful when grocery shopping and comparing different brands.
  • Restaurant Nutrition – I haven’t used this much yet, but will!  It has many restaurants that the WW apps doesn’t include.  It gives the nutritional information so that you can input on the WW app to get your point values.  I am thankful for this since you can’t always eat at home.
